Should half&half neglect one half?

This is Jacob again. This will be short, as I have many things to do.  But none more important at this very moment than to write to you, my dear reader.  I just watched a video about a man from Kuwait who learned that on the basis of having a maternal grandmother who had been born a Jew, he himself is a Jew, according to Jewish law.  After learning this, while living in Canada, he decided to move to Israel and embrace his Judaism.  He took a Jewish wife and has Jewish children.  But while he acknowledges at the beginning of the video that Jewishness is matrilineal and Islam patrilineal, he fails to acknowledge his Islamicness,  He learns that a Jew never stops being a Jew, if he is born a Jew on the  basis of his lineage on his mother's side.  But on the basis of his lineage on his father's side, he is also a Muslim.  But he doesn't acknowledge this, and embraces his Jewish side, attending synagogue, observing holidays and raising his kids Jewish.  But would it be more interesting and courageous to respect both of his parent's religion and practice both?  Teach both Christianity and Islam to his Children?  What do you think?

First Post

My name is Jacob and I'm a friend of Hyman.  He invited me to start blogging on his account for two reasons: 1, he hasn't been blogging himself; and 2, I had expressed and interest in doing it.  So, since he had a blog platform all set up, here we go.

A bit about myself.  I live in a Mediterranean country, on the coast, but I wasn't born here.  I live here with my wife and son.  They both speak the local language rather well, which I do not.  My limited ability to communicate with natives limits me.  It's true that I'm often so busy with work that I would have neither time to learn this language nor use it.  But there have been times when I haven't been busy and when a working knowledge of this tongue would have enhanced my experience here.

Lately, we have talked about moving to a different city, the capital of our province.  In addition to being the provincial seat of government, it's also home to a major university.  As you might expect, the population is educated and prosperous, secure and civilized.  Broad in their interests and probably good for conversation.  So, I would do even better there if I learn this tongue.  So I'll set about doing so and let you know what happens.
